Arzachena
Amongst the best-known holiday destinations on the island is Arzachena, a lively town on the north-eastern coast and gateway to the famous Costa Smeralda. A mix of small bays and charming inlets, breath-taking sunsets and delicious seafood recipes accompanied by a goblet of chilled Vermentino, the famous, slightly sparkling white wine whose grapes grow in Gallura, Arzachena is also an excellent base to reach some of the marvellous stretches of this coast. Just to mention a few: Porto Cervo if you’re looking for a really heady holiday atmosphere, or Baja Sardinia, with great entertainment for kids, up to Cannigione, with its small village of pastel-coloured houses facing the sea. And all around stretches Gallura, a land swept by the cool mistral wind which has sculpted its granite outcrops, a land clothed in scented Mediterranean brush, a land of ancient recipes, music, tradition and home to many of the island’s centenarians.

When to visit Arzachena
The best period is from June to the beginning of September, with the greatest flow of tourists in the months of July and August. Spring and autumn in Gallura are also a great period for discovering the coast and the small villages of the interior.
